The film entirely lies on Deepika’s shoulder and people are appreciating the distinctive choices she is making in her career. While several actresses have marked their niche where they don’t need a Khan or Kapoor to run a film, there’s still a long way to go for many. Her recent visit to JNU is cited as one of her bravest steps by many.
In an interview with Indian Express, when asked about being an actor who has a voice of her own, Deepika Padukone said, “It is not so much about me having a voice because it is cool today to have a voice, but I speak about things that I genuinely feel passionate about. Many years ago I pulled up a publication for reporting about my physicality in a certain way. It was way before it was cool to express yourself. Then, I spoke about mental health when nobody else spoke about mental health.”
She further added, “So, I have done things and followed through on things that I feel very strongly about, without ever thinking about the repercussions. I genuinely don’t know if it is the right way of going about things, but then I also do not know any other way than just being authentic and honest. I would like to continue being that.”

It’s indeed true. After her own battle of depression, the dimpled actress has started her own initiative where they look after people dealing with mental health issues. She has also been vocal about pay parity in Bollywood and once revealed that she left a film because the makers told her that they have to accommodate the male lead’s pay. Without any second thoughts, Padukone walked out of the film and said that she knows her worth.
Meanwhile, up next, the actress will be seen in Shakun Batra’s film which also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday in the lead roles.
