NEW YORK FASHION WEEK: Rodarte SS17

 Ummm....

I knew this was Rodarte the second I saw it. I just knew. I've come to know the signs. The gothic touches, the lace, the overdone layering, the frills......just the same thing different season.

If I am honest, I found this a bit messy. I skated through the first few images feeling a bit overwhelmed by the layers of lace which seemed a bit much. Then I was completely turned off by the leathery-studded cowboy looks which came in before enjoying the sequined effects.

I loved the sequined pieces with the bright tones and romantic see through panels. They do the whole romance thing quite well.

That was until the whole over the top fussy lace kicked in again.
I really hate this cowboy trend. I've seen it pop up in a few other collections and I really don't like it. I respect Rodarte as a brand (depsite knowing no one who wears it or buys it) and I like their stuff generally. However, I felt this was directionless and lacked substance.

There is a lot of fringing, studded belts, leather, white leather and just plain tacky details. I like the cowboy tacky direction thing from Moschino as its a tongue in cheek take but on Rodarte? It's less amusing. I know they cannot keep making romantic sheer panel dresses just for me but I just didn't feel this.
