Is Justin Bieber dissing Hailey Baldwin's ex Shawn Mendes in No Brainer song with DJ Khaled?

Is Justin Bieber dissing Hailey Baldwin's ex Shawn Mendes in No Brainer song with DJ Khaled?

  • Some fans have alleged that Justin Bieber dissed Shawn Mendes in a new song
  • Some have interpreted the lyrics as alluding to Mendes, the former boyfriend of his fiance Hailey Baldwin, though others believe the controversy is fabricated
  • Baldwin had reportedly dated Mendes before later becoming engaged to Bieber

A new track from Justin Bieber with DJ Khaled is raising the eyebrows of some fans, according to Hollywood Life.

Bieber, who got engaged to Hailey Baldwin on July 7, has been accused of throwing shade at singer Shawn Mendes, Baldwin's ex-boyfriend, in his new song No Brainer.

The possible diss of Mendes has left fans of both Bieber and Mendes arguing over whether the Love Yourself singer was legitimately criticizing Mendes.

In his new song, Bieber sings: 'Him or me, be for real, baby, it's a no brainer.'

Some fans interpreted the lyrics of the track, released on July 27, as being a way of subtly throwing shade at Mendes. Bieber rekindled his relationship with Baldwin in May shortly after she and Mendes appeared at the 2018 Met Gala in New York City together despite denying they were in a romantic relationship at the time.

The lyrics, interpreted by some as dissing Mendes, quickly divided fans of both pop stars.

One fan wrote on Twitter: 'Why would someone ever diss Shawn especially when he's a fan of you? RIP Bieber your reputation is over.'

Others denied that Bieber was criticizing Mendes, saying on social media: 'No Brainer isn't about Justin shading Shawn Mendes. It's just a song! Some fans are just literally trying to find ways to start a fan war.'

Dissed or not, Mendes has been very supportive of Hailey and Bieber's relationship.

'I texted Hailey the day of and I said congrats. That's what it is. I think everybody wants there to be more — there's not,' he said after their engagement.

Social media reaction

Bieber's possible diss of Mendes ignited a firestorm of debate on social media by fans of both stars:
