Tory Lanez is a proud aficionado of 2000s R&B and he’s showing off his skills in Chixtape 5, the fifth installation in the mixtape series that began in 2011.
Chixtape 5 is an obvious homage to the genre right from the get-go, as Lanez picked Ashanti to be on the pink-tinted album art holding a T-Mobile Sidekick phone. Diving deeper into the project, the Canadian musician teamed up with a number of 2000s stars for remixes of their hit songs including T-Pain for “Jerry Sprunger” that remixes “I’m Sprung,” Chris Brown for “The Take” that remixes “Take You Down,” and Lloyd and Lil Wayne for “Thoughts” that remixes their original cut, “You.”
“Everything is 2000s-inspired,” Lanez said in a recent interview. “Everything is inspired by the times when things were golden for us. I think all those pieces and everything that we’ve come out with has been all about nostalgia. I’m about to take you on a whole journey musically.”
Stream Chixtape 5 on Spotify and Apple Music.
In other new music releases, G-Eazy has shared a new “K I D S” visual.
